Item Electricity transportation using HVDC technology for Algerian southern sun power plants(2023-08-01) Nedjem Eddine Benchouia; Mohammed SAAIDIA; Abdelghani GUECHIAlgeria is worldly known as one of the big producers and exporters of fossil fuels. However, by developing an adequate energy policy, it could become one of the great sun power (SP) producers and exporters. Indeed with almost 2 million Km2 sunny superficies, the country detains enormous SP energetic potential funds. However, eventual powerful SP plants deployment could be done far to the southern Algerian desert which makes HVDC technology the best candidate for the transmission of produced electricity towards the north region where are the main industrial poles and the most populated regions for local consumption and eventually farther to the north for electricity exportation to the European countries. Theprospection work presented hereafter is a study on the feasibility of using HVDC technology for such possible projects according to country’s existingmeans and topographical and environmental characteristics.Item Vehicle Embedded by a Fuel Cell System: a review(Séminaire international sur l’Industrie et la Technologie, 2021-03-13) Bilal SOLTANI; Nedjem Eddine Benchouia; Mohamed SAAIDIAAmong the various existing fuel cell, proton exchange membrane (PEM) fuel cells now seem to be the best suited to serve as a basis for the motorization of electric vehicles. This is explained in particular by their low operating temperature (about 70 ° C) and the solid nature of the electrolyte involved. In an emerging context of electromechanical system aspect involving the modeling and simulation of a set of components, the present work consists in developing a model of the system for modeling and optimization of an on-board vehicle by fuel cell system. . In this model, we will model the different parts of the system; PEMFC fuel cell, super-capacitor, converters and a permanent magnet synchronous motor. Validation by simulation is essential for its good analysis and comparison with experimental measurements. Finally, this work focuses on solving the problems of optimization to adapt it to the fuel cell system.Item An Overview Of Photovoltaic Power Plant (PV) Connection To HVDC Grid(IEEE, 2023) Nedjem Eddine Benchouia; Abdelghani GUECHI; Mohammed SAAIDIASolar energy is considered one of the most important alternative and renewable energies for the production of electricity so solar power plants work to produce direct current, which is then converted into alternating current through DC-AC converters and linked to power transmission networks of alternating current. But since most of the large solar PV plants are built in areas far from the load, the world is moving today to transfer power directly from solar panels to high voltage HVDC grid, due to the advantages that HVDC provides such as lower transmission loss, low cost and higher efficiency compared to HVAC. In this paper, we present an overview of recent studies dealing with Photovoltaic Power Plant Connections to HVDC Grid and the comparison between these systems.Item Modeling, Optimization, and Techno-Economic Assessment of a Hybrid System Composed of Photovoltaic-Wind-Fuel Cell and Battery Bank(IIETA, 2023) Nedjem Eddine Benchouia; Kamilia Boucenna; Toufik SebbaghDecentralized electricity production from renewable energy sources offers greater security of supply to consumers while respecting the environment. However, the random nature of these sources requires us to establish rules for the sizing and use of these systems in order to make the best use of them. Hybrid renewable energy sources can effectively meet the electric energy needs of the University of Skikda's various structures. This study examines the financial viability of a hybrid renewable-based system that is off the grid and proposed to supply several campuses of the University of Skikda in Algeria with the electricity they need. In order to achieve this, HOMER software is used to optimize and simulate the system under consideration. The results obtained recommend using a system made up of a wind turbine, solar panels, a battery bank, and a fuel cell that can produce electricity at a levelized cost of 0.193 €/kWh.Item One day ahead prediction of PV power production: case study of Oued-Elkebrit’s station (Algeria)(2020) Nedjem Eddine Benchouia; Mohammed Saaidia; Talal Belhouchat; Kaltoum AchibiThe research work presented hereafter is based on a real recorded database of a PV plant in production and in connection with a classical electrical grid. Datasets were processed through two types of techniques. The first one, a classical type, is based on a predictive predefined model, however, the second one is an artificial intelligent method based on neural networks. Based on the carried out experiences, we proposed a new strategy to implement the proposed techniques. The results obtained through the two methods were compared which demonstrate the superiority of the AI method in terms of precision, generalization, and robustness. Obtained results for each method were recorded, analyzed, and compared.Item HVDC electricity transportation technology: feasibility study (Algeria)(2020) Nedjem Eddine Benchouia; Mohammed Saaidia; Lekhmissi DerardjiaHVDC technology is gradually becoming a standard in electrical energy transportation. Even more, in some situations, it’s the best practical solution. The research work presented hereafter is dedicated to the exploration of the basic notions, the induced gains, the basic components, the basic and extended structures, the applications, and the real implemented projects of such technology. An overview of the research works concerned with the challenges of this expandable technology and an economic study of the deployment of real electrical transportation lines and their feasibility in Algeria are presented.Item VEHICLE EMBEDDED BY A FUEL CELL SYSTEM: A REVIEW(2021) Nedjem Eddine Benchouia; Bilal SOLTANIAmong the various existing fuel cell, proton exchange membrane (PEM) fuel cells now seem to be the best suited to serve as a basis for the motorization of electric vehicles. The capital costs and operating expenses of pipeline systems are so large that even small improvements in the use of the system can involve large sums of money. Purpose. This article proposes a method to improve the reliability and optimization of power supply systems for compressor stations. The novelty of the proposed work is the development of a new mathematical model that allows the choice of the most appropriate maintenance policies in the best way to significantly reduce costs as well as to optimize useful key performance indicators – failure rate, the average time between breakdowns, the average repair time for equipment in compressor station electrical supply systems. Applying graph theory to represent this mathematical model from the schematic diagram of the different energy sources with respect to the five compressor stations is adequate. Methods. The problem that arises for the future operator or operator is, among others, how to balance two main aspects: a technical aspect and an economic aspect. The proposed methodology introduces a research algorithm to calculate the optimal values of the operating parameters of the power supply systems of compressor stations by combining technical and economic aspects in order to reduce costs and increase performance indicators. The proposed algorithm can be implemented in FORTRAN code. Results. The algorithm developed is an efficient tool for calculating maintenance costs and allows means of programming to define the most appropriate maintenance policy. On the other hand, this technique could be used as an essential economic evaluation indicator for other equipment in order to choose among all the technically possible solutions the one which allows obtaining the best economic result. Practical value. The proposed algorithm has been examined in this third variant of the supply system with two turbogenerators. The result of the optimization shows a clear preference for selecting station C for the pipeline as this presents the minimum cost which is the definition of the algorithm optimizer. Then, it is important to adopt the most recommended maintenance policies and practices in order to ensure the availability of the power supply systems and to avoid unplanned outages with the resulting loss of production.Item MODELING THE DEGRADATION OF VISCOSITY OF ENGINE OILS(ICIC Express Letters, 2020-01) Nedjem Eddine Benchouia; Lamia Benzaid; Azzeddine BouzaouitIn this paper, we present an analytical study to describe the monitoring and change in the condition of viscosity of lubricating oil used in combustion engines and exploited under very severe conditions. The objective is to determine the remaining lifetime of this oil. Stochastic methods in general are statistical methods that can be employed in predictive analysis, and they highly depend on probability theory. Markov models, in particular, make it possible to predict the degradation of the oil viscosity after a determined operating time. In these, degradation can be described by transition probabilities from one state to another. Knowing that Markov models are used to describe the transition probability to a new state (i) at time (t) based directly on the probability of the previous state (j) at time (t–1). In this context, we propose a Markov model to study the degradation law for the SAE 40 oil. The latter is designed for the lubrication of locomotives engines under the working conditions of a steel plant in Algeria. We have demonstrated that the proposed model gives detailed results describing the different conditions/states of the analyzed oil.
