Abstract

abstract European scholars have shown significant interest in documenting the history of North Africa across various historical periods. Among the subjects that received notable attention were the events and developments concerning interregional relations within this area—particularly the relations between Algeria and Tunisia. Accordingly, this study focuses on Algerian-Tunisian relations during the 18th and 19th centuries, as examined through the works of two European authors: Ernest Mercier, author of History of North Africa, and D. de Gramont, author of History of Algeria under Turkish Rule. Both writers provide a wealth of information and offer distinct perspectives on the subject. The core issue addressed by this research is the nature and evolution of these bilateral relations during the specified timeframe, as portrayed through a foreign lens. This perspective is then compared with other contemporary sources, including local historical accounts. Furthermore, the study aims to critically assess these European writings, highlighting their limitations and biases, particularly as extensions of colonial historiography that often served ideological purposes aligned with European imperial interests. ------------------------------- الملخص باللغة العربية: لقد اهتم الأوربيون بكتابة تاريخ شمال افريقيا في مختلف العصور ومن القضايا التي كان لها نصيب من الكتابات تلك الاحداث والتطورات التي تخص العلاقات بين اقطار هذه المناطق ومن بينها العلاقات الجزائرية التونسية، وعلى هذا الأساس كان بحثي هذا المتعلق بالعلاقات الجزائرية التونسية خلال القرنين 18 و19م من خلال ما كتبه كل من ارنست ميرسييه صاحب كتاب تاريخ شمال افريقيا وما كتبه دي غرامون صاحب كتاب تاريخ الجزائر تحت السيطرة التركية، وقد قدما كلاهما مادة خبرية، وعلى هذا الاساس كانت الاشكالية التي يطرحها الموضوع هي طبيعة هذه العلاقات وتطوراتها خلال الفترة الزمنية الموضحة من خلال رؤية أجنبية والتي يمكن ان نقارنها مع ما جاء في المصادر الاخرى المعاصرة ومنها المصادر المحلية، إضافة الى تقييم هذه الكتابات من جوانبها السلبية باعتبارها امتدادا للكتابات الأوربية الكولونيالية. ------------------------------ résumé -------------------------------- L’importance d’écrire l’histoire du nord d’Afrique était une nécessité pour les européens en divers période, tel que les événements et les évolutions politiques entre les deux régences otomanes l’Algérie et la Tunisie, dont le thème que j’ai choisi qui doit étudier ses relations entre le 18 et 19eme siècles d’après deux auteurs étrangers telles Ernest Mercier et D Gramont et d’après ses ouvrages pleins des information et d’opinion propre a eux, la problématique basée sur l’identification et l’évolutions de ses relations entre les deux régences dans la période désignée précédente, et aussi le but d’évaluer ses ouvrages avec les autres ouvrages et de conclure les points négatifs concernent se genre d’écriture qui serve une idéologie coloniale.
