| dc.description.abstract | Medical imaging plays an essential role in diagnosis, planning, and therapeutic monitoring, particularly in the treatment of complex pathologies such as brain tumors. The evolution of imaging acquisition technologies, combined with the rise of artificial intelligence and image processing techniques, has made it possible to consider the 3D reconstruction of anatomical structures from series of two-dimensional slices. However, this task remains highly resource-intensive, which limits its real-time use, especially in constrained environments such as embedded medical devices. This thesis proposes an original design flow enabling real-time 3D reconstruction of medical images, with a particular focus on the detection and segmentation of brain tumors. The developed approach relies on the use of FPGA-type programmable logic circuits, which offer an optimal compromise between performance, flexibility, and energy consumption. Several aspects have been studied, including the hardware implementation of image processing and deep learning algorithms, volumetric rendering, as well as the optimization of architectures to meet real-time requirements. Furthermore, we propose an innovative deep learning methodology dedicated to the detection and segmentation of tumors in medical images, relying on CNNs and the U-Net architecture. This approach highlights the importance of enhancing the quality and relevance of features extracted upstream, through the use of advanced image preprocessing techniques. A portable and low-cost device was designed based on Raspberry Pi for the initial detection of tumors. Subsequently, the algorithm was deployed on more powerful embedded hardware platforms, such as the Ultra96-V2 and the Kria KV260, enabling real-time execution with the development of the algorithm for 3D tumor reconstruction. A performance comparison was conducted to evaluate the effectiveness of the different architectures. The results obtained demonstrate the feasibility and relevance of the proposed approach, both in terms of accuracy and speed, thus paving the way for future integration into intelligent, mobile, and autonomous medical systems. | |
