This course provides students with a comprehensive scientific and technical understanding of competitive swimming by examining the principles that govern swimming performance, technique development, and training methodology. It explores the evolution of swimming techniques and the continuous improvement of training programs aimed at optimizing athlete performance. Particular emphasis is placed on the role of evaluation and monitoring in the training process, enabling coaches and practitioners to assess progress, identify weaknesses, and adapt training strategies accordingly. The course analyzes the biomechanical, physiological, and technical factors that influence swimming efficiency, highlighting the importance of minimizing water resistance, maximizing propulsion, and developing effective coordination patterns. Students are introduced to the scientific foundations of swimming technique analysis and the mechanical laws that underpin the four competitive strokes. In addition, the module examines long-term swimmer development, age-specific training principles, and the physiological characteristics of young swimmers. Special attention is given to the predominance of aerobic development during childhood and the progressive adaptation of training programs throughout different stages of growth and maturation. By integrating theoretical knowledge with practical applications, this course equips students with the analytical skills necessary to evaluate swimming techniques objectively, design appropriate training programs, and understand the scientific principles that support performance enhancement in competitive swimming.
