Abstract

The choice of breeders apart from the performances for which they are selected necessarily requires knowledge and appreciation of their sexual function. Our study involved the evaluation of the sexual function of seven stallions and thirty Selle-Français and Arabe-Barbe mares; owned (private horse club in Constantine) for a period of four months (February-May 2021). The parameters studied are the determination of the live weight recorded by the seesaw, body measurements, sexual behavior and gestation parameters. In light of the results obtained, it turns out that: The mean value of the libido score shows a significant difference in terms of age, again the time spent for the first jump, the time spent for ejaculation and the total time for mating are influenced by age (P <0.05), gestation length influenced by years, age of mare and breed (p <0.05); the latter is influenced neither by the stallion nor by month of foaling (p> 0.05)
