Abstract

Summary The study aims to explore the image of women in the novel “El-Jazia and the Dervishes” by Abdelhamid Ben Hadouga, using a semiotic approach focused on analyzing the signs and meanings that structure the symbolic framework of the text. It addresses a central question: how is the woman represented in Algerian fiction, and to what extent does this representation go beyond traditional stereotypes? The research is divided into a theoretical section, which discusses the concepts of image, woman, and novel, and examines the status of women in Arabic and Algerian literature, and a practical section offering a semiotic reading of the novel—particularly of the character "El-Jazia", portrayed as a model of a conscious and active woman in a transforming society. The study concludes that the novel presents an advanced image of women, far from subordination, and that the semiotic approach enables a multidimensional reading that reveals the depth of female presence in the narrative discourse ---------------- ملخّص : تسعى الدراسة إلى الكشف عن صورة المرأة في رواية "الجازية والدراويش" لعبد الحميد بن هدوقة، من خلال مقاربة سيميائية تُعنى بتحليل العلامات والدلالات التي تشكّل البنية الرمزية للنص. وتنطلق من إشكالية مركزية تتمثل في كيفية تمثيل المرأة في الرواية الجزائرية، ومدى تجاوزه للصور النمطية التقليدية. وقد ارتكزت الدراسة على فصل نظري تناول مفاهيم الصورة والمرأة والرواية، ومكانة المرأة في الأدبين العربي والجزائري، وفصل تطبيقي قدّم قراءة سيميائية معمقة للرواية، خاصة لشخصية "الجازية" بوصفها نموذجًا للمرأة الواعية والفاعلة في مجتمع متحوّل. وتوصلت الدراسة إلى أن الرواية قدّمت تمثيلاً متقدّمًا للمرأة يتجاوز الطابع التبعي، وأن المنهج السيميائي أتاح قراءة متعددة الأبعاد تكشف عن عمق حضور المرأة داخل الخطاب الروائي -------------------- Résumé L’étude vise à dévoiler l’image de la femme dans le roman « El-Jazia et les Derviches » d’Abdelhamid Ben Hadouga, à travers une approche sémiotique centrée sur l’analyse des signes et des significations qui structurent le tissu symbolique du texte. Elle part d’une problématique centrale : comment la femme est-elle représentée dans le roman algérien, et dans quelle mesure cette représentation dépasse-t-elle les stéréotypes traditionnels ? La recherche s’appuie sur un volet théorique abordant les notions d’image, de femme et de roman, ainsi que la place de la femme dans les littératures arabe et algérienne ; et un volet pratique consacré à une lecture sémiotique du roman, notamment du personnage de « El-Jazia », présenté comme un modèle de femme consciente et active dans une société en mutation. L’étude conclut que le roman offre une image féminine évoluée, éloignée de la subordination, et que l’approche sémiotique permet une lecture multidimensionnelle révélant la profondeur de la présence féminine dans le discours romanesque.
