Abstract

Abstract This study, entitled “The Semiotics of Space in Camp Literature: The Thorn and the Carnation by Yahya Sinwar as a Model,” aims to shed light on a modern and relatively marginalized literary field, namely camp literature. It also seeks to uncover the deep meanings and connotations conveyed by Palestinian narrative space. This research is divided into two chapters. The theoretical chapter addresses three essential elements: first, semiotics, its origins, and its major trends; second, the concept of space and its importance in narrative discourse; and third, camp literature, its emergence, and its most prominent pioneers. The applied chapter provides an overview of the novel and its author, followed by a semiotic analysis of the title. It then examines the significance of open and closed spaces, with a particular focus on the camp space, as it represents the dominant setting in the novel. Through the implications and suggestions conveyed by the narrative, the study also attempts to identify a set of objectives pursued by the author through his intensive focus on space. Finally, it explores the relationship between space, characters, time, and description, applying the mechanisms of the semiotic approach ---------------------- الملخص: تهدف هذه الدراسة الموسومة بـ "سيميائية المكان في أدب المخيمات: رواية الشوك والقرنفل ليحيى السنوار أنموذجًا" إلى تسليط الضوء على مجال أدبي حديث ومهمَّش نسبيًا، وهو أدب المخيمات، كما تهدف إلى الكشف عن الدلالات والمعاني العميقة التي يحملها المكان الروائي الفلسطيني. وقد تم تقسيم هذا البحث إلى فصلين: فصل نظري تطرقنا فيه إلى ثلاثة عناصر ضرورية؛ تعرفنا بدايةً على السيميائية ونشأتها واتجاهاتها، ووقفنا على عنصر المكان وأهميته في الخطاب الروائي، كما تعرفنا أيضًا على أدب المخيمات ونشأته وأشهر رواده. أما الفصل التطبيقي، فقد قدمنا فيه لمحة عن الرواية وكاتبها، ودرسنا عنوانها سيميائيًا، ثم تطرقنا إلى دلالة الأمكنة المفتوحة والمغلقة، وركزنا على فضاء المخيم تحديدًا؛ لأنه يمثل الفضاء المهيمن في الرواية. كما حاولنا، من خلال إيحاءات الرواية، استنباط مجموعة من الأهداف التي سعى إليها الروائي من خلال التركيز المكثف على الأمكنة. وفي نهاية الفصل تطرقنا إلى علاقة المكان بالشخصيات والزمن والوصف، مستخدمين في تطبيق هذه الخطة آليات المنهج السيميائي -------------------------- Résumé Cette étude, intitulée « La sémiotique de l’espace dans la littérature des camps : le roman Les Épines et les Œillets de Yahya Sinwar comme modèle », vise à mettre en lumière un domaine littéraire récent et relativement marginalisé, à savoir la littérature des camps. Elle vise également à révéler les significations et les connotations profondes véhiculées par l’espace romanesque palestinien. Cette recherche est divisée en deux chapitres : un chapitre théorique dans lequel nous avons abordé trois éléments essentiels. Nous avons d’abord présenté la sémiotique, son émergence et ses principales orientations, puis nous nous sommes intéressés à l’espace et à son importance dans le discours romanesque. Nous avons également présenté la littérature des camps, son apparition et ses principaux représentants. Quant au chapitre appliqué, il comprend une présentation du roman et de son auteur, ainsi qu’une analyse sémiotique de son titre. Nous avons ensuite étudié les significations des espaces ouverts et fermés, en accordant une attention particulière à l’espace du camp, puisqu’il constitue l’espace dominant dans le roman. À travers les suggestions et les implications du récit, nous avons également tenté de dégager un ensemble d’objectifs poursuivis par l’auteur à travers son insistance sur les espaces. Enfin, nous avons examiné la relation entre l’espace, les personnages, le temps et la description, en nous appuyant sur les mécanismes de la méthode sémiotique
