Enfin, une étude comparative a été menée entre les résistances ultimes mesurées expérimentalement et celles calculées par les modèles analytiquesItem FEM investigation of concrete silos damaged and reinforced externally with CFRP(mechanics-industry, 2018) Sihem KermicheAbstract The present work investigates the reinforcement of concrete wheat-grain silos under initial damage. The reinforcement is achieved by mounting bands of carbon fiber reinforced polymer (CFRP) on the external walls of the silo. 4 modes of reinforcement are adapted according to the width of the band, the gap between two bands, the height of reinforcement and the number of layers achieved through banding. Analytical analyses were conducted using the Reimbert Method and the Eurocode 1 Part 4 method, as well as numerically through the finite element software Abaqus. Results show that the normal pressure reaches a peak value when approaching the silo hopper. Initial damage in a concrete silo was first determined using a 3D geometrical model, while the damage analyses were conducted to optimize the CFRP reinforcement by mounting 2 CFRP bands close together above and below the cylinder-hopper joint. Increasing the number of banding layers could produce better performance as the damage was slightly decreased from 0.161 to 0.152 for 1 and 4 layers respectivelyItem Explicit solutions for turbulent flow friction factor: A review, assessment and approaches classification(2019-03-05) Zeghadnia LotfiThe Colebrook –white equation is widely used in many fields, like civil engineering for calculation of water distribution systems and in all fields of engineering where fluid flow can be occurred. Numerous formulas have been proposed since 1947 in order to simplify the computation of the friction factor, to avoid the iterative procedures methods and to alter the Colebrook-white equation in practice. most of the existing explicit formulas for computation of the friction factor for turbulent flow in rough pipes proposed are cited, where thirty three ‘‘33” equations have been inventoried. The goal of this paper is to assess the accuracy of each model and to propose an arrangement from the best to the lower accuracy according to a proposed method combined of three criteria which are: simplicity of the formula, maximum deviations and the coverage of the entire range of Moody diagram. 2019 The Authors. The roughness and DEMs resolution are factors that can afect the fow characteristics in a river. Manning's roughness plays a signifcant role because it is not a constant parameter and varies depending on the length of the river. DEM resolution is potentially the crucial element to give better food estimations. The objective of the present study is to assess the combined efects of Manning roughness and DEMs resolution to predict water surface elevation of the Moudjar River by using HEC-RAS 1D model. In this study, diferent results were obtained from various combinations of DEM resolution, and Manning roughness coefcients by applying the unsteady HEC-RAS (Hydrologic Engineering Centers- River Analysis System) 1D model on the Moudjar River in Algeria, to predict and quantify the performance regarding actual water surface elevation extent and the generated water surface limits. Data from February 02, 2019, to February 07, 2019, were used to determine predictive accuracy. The simulation results of the stage level of the river fow for diferent combinations of Manning’s roughness coefcient and DEM’s resolution show the closer values between the observed and simulated stage hydrograph, only in the case of the coarser DEM resolution (50 m) where the results are very distant and unacceptable. Statistical parameters such as Root Mean Square Error (RMSE), Mean Absolute Error (MAE), and Nash Sutclif (NSE) were used to verify the model's accuracy and predictive ability. The results obtained and the methodology applied to the Moudjar River can be used as a useful reference for HEC-RAS modelling and food predicting in Algerian rivers.
