Abstract

Metabolic disorders are disturbances in the functioning of the organism due to the accumulation in the cells of abnormally high quantities of lipids, carbohydrates, calcium,…etc. At a time when health costs are exploding and austerity is almost universal, traditional medicine also appears as a way to cope with the inexorable rise of chronic diseases, that is why the objective of this work was to determine the prevalence of the use of complementary and alternative therapies (CAT) by patients suffering from metabolic disorders in the wilaya of Souk- Ahras A total of 1000 patients were surveyed from April to May 2021 through an anonymous questionnaire. According to our results, the patients surveyed were predominantly female, elderly, of medium education and without function; we also recorded a frequency of 59 % of diabetics. 91 % of the patients had recourse to CAT, the main CAT solicited was phytotherapy. The study of the medicinal flora allowed us to identify 51 species of plants belonging to 28 botanical families, the most represented was that of fabaceae, the most used plant was Artemisia herba alba. The use of cultivated medicinal plants dominates that of spontaneous plants and most of these plants are harvested in spring. The majority of the recipes are prepared essentially from the seeds with non-precise doses in the form of decoction, relying mainly on the entourage as a source of information. Currently, despite the progress of modern medicine, the use of traditional medicine remains powerful in the world, which indicates the great conviction of the benefits of natural medicines especially when they are used with skill and knowledge in terms of doses and mode of use. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Metabolic disorders are disturbances in the functioning of the organism due to the accumulation in the cells of abnormally high quantities of lipids, carbohydrates, calcium,…etc.
