Investigating the Effectiveness of Using Grammarly Online Writing Assistant to Improve Students’ Academic Writing Quality. The Case of Third Year LMD Students of English at the University of Souk-Ahras.

The current study aims at investigating the effectiveness of using Grammarly software in improving the academic writing quality of third-year EFL students at Mohamed CherifMessaadia University, in Souk-Ahras. It also seeks to examine its persistent effect on learners' writing accuracy in terms of the mechanics of writing, including grammar, spelling, and punctuation. In pursuance of these objectives, two research methods are used. First, a pre-experiment method was conducted, where one experimental group, consisting of 18 conveniently selected participants, underwent four distinct phases, namely a pre-test, a treatment level, a test using Grammarly, and a post-test at the end of the experiment. Second, a post-treatment questionnaire comprised of 15 questions was administered to the same sample. The obtained findings unearthed that Grammarly software has a significant immediate impact on improving learners' academic writing quality but no long-lasting effect on their accuracy. Based on these results, our hypotheses are confirmed. To this end, a number of accentuated recommendations and suggestions are proposed for further research.

تهدف الدراسة الحالية الى التحقيق في فعالية استخدام برنامج غرامرلي في تحسين جودة الكتابة الأكاديمية لطلبة اللغة الإنجليزية كلغة أجنبية من السنة الثالثة بجامعة محمد الشريف مساعدية بسوق أهراس. كما تسعى إلى فحص تأثيرهالمستمر على دقة كتابة الطلبةمن حيث ميكانيكة الكتابة، بما في ذلك القواعد النحوية والإملائية وعلامات الترقيم. ولتحقيق هذه الأهداف، تم استخدام اثنان اسلوبي بحث. الأولى كانت طريقة التجربة المبدئية ، حيث خضعت مجموعة تجريبية واحدة تتكون من 18 مشاركًا مختارين بشكل ملائم لأربع مراحل متميزة ، وهي اختبار ما قبل التجربة ، ومستوى المعالجة ، واختبار باستخدام برنامج غرامرلي ، واختبار ما بعد التجربة في النهاية .الاسلوب الثاني كان استبيان ما بعد المعالجة يتكون من 15 سؤالًا وتم تنفيذه على نفس العينة. وكشفت النتائج المستحصلة أن برنامج غرامرلي له تأثير فوري كبير على تحسين جودة الكتابة الأكاديمية لدى الطلبة ولكن ليس له تأثير دائم على صحةالكتابة.استنادًا إلى هذه النتائج، تم تأكيد فرضياتنا. وعلى هذا الأساس، يتم اقتراح عدد من التوصيات والاقتراحات المؤشرة للبحث المستقبلي.

L'étude actuelle vise à examiner l'efficacité de l'utilisation du logiciel Grammarly pour améliorer la qualité de l'écriture académique des étudiants en EFL de troisième année à l'Université de Mohamed Cherif Messaadia, à Souk-Ahras. Elle cherche également à examiner son effet persistant sur l'exactitude de l'écriture des apprenantsen termes de mécanique d'écriture, notamment la grammaire, l'orthographe et la ponctuation. Pour atteindre ces objectifs, deux méthodes de recherche ont été utilisées. Tout d'abord, une méthode de pré-expérience a été menée, où un groupe expérimental, composé de 18 participants choisis de manière pratique, a subi quatre phases distinctes, à savoir un pré-test, un niveau de traitement, un test utilisant Grammarly et un post-test à la fin de l'expérience. Ensuite, un questionnaire de post-traitement composé de 15 questions a été administré au même échantillon. Les résultats obtenus ont révélé que le logiciel Grammarly a un impact immédiat significatif sur l'amélioration de la qualité de l'écriture académique des apprenants, mais aucun effet durable sur leur précision. Sur la base de ces résultats, nos hypothèses sont confirmées. À cette fin, un certain nombre de recommandations et de suggestions sont proposées pour des recherches ultérieures.
