Investigating Teachers’ and Students’ Perceptions of the Utilization of Google Meet as a tool in Improving Students’ Speaking Skills. The Case of First -Year Students of English at the university of Souk-Ahras.

Abstract

Abstract The study aimed to investigate the effectiveness of using Google Meet in improving speaking skills among EFL students at Mohamed Cherif Messaadia University, Souk Ahras. The study employed a descrptive research design , using a questionnaire administered to 40 first-year EFL students and a semi-structured interview conducted with 4 teachers. The findings revealed a positive impact of Google Meet on enhancing students’ speaking performance, particularly in terms of participation, confidence, and interaction. However, some challenges were identified, including technical issues and limited interaction. As a result, the study confirms that Google Meet can effectively support the development of speaking skills when used appropriately. -------------------- الملخص تهدف هذه الدراسة إلى استقصاء فعالية استخدام منصة Google Meet في تحسين مهارات التحدث لدى طلبة اللغة الإنجليزية كلغة أجنبية (EFL) بجامعة محمد الشريف مساعدية، سوق أهراس. تم اعتماد المنهج الوصفي، حيث تم استخدام استبيان وُزِّع على 40 طالبًا من السنة الأولى، بالإضافة إلى إجراء مقابلة شبه مهيكلة مع 4 أساتذة. وقد أظهرت النتائج تأثيرًا إيجابيًا لاستخدام Google Meet في تحسين أداء الطلبة في مهارة التحدث، خاصة من حيث المشاركة، والثقة بالنفس، والتفاعل. ومع ذلك، تم تحديد بعض التحديات، من بينها المشكلات التقنية وضعف التفاعل. وبناءً على ذلك، تؤكد الدراسة أن منصة Google Meet يمكن أن تدعم بشكل فعّال تطوير مهارات التحدث عند استخدامها بطريقة مناسبة. واستنادًا إلى هذه النتائج، توصي الدراسة بضرورة إدماج Google Meet في الممارسات التعليمية من أجل تنمية الكفاءة التواصلية لدى الطلبة. ----------------- Abstract The study aimed to investigate the effectiveness of using Google Meet in improving speaking skills among EFL students at Mohamed Cherif Messaadia University, Souk Ahras.
