Good Vs Bad Oral Presentation Performance in the EFL Classroom The Case of Second Year Students of English at University of Souk Ahras

Abstract

Abstract Good versus bad oral presentation performance is an interested theme for students to express themselves; it shows the distinguished abilities, and their capacity to convey ideas clearly. This study aims to describe the factors that have a positive and a negative effect the EFL students’ oral presentation performance at Mohamed Cherif Messadia University. To test the hypotheses that suggest that the student’s abilities to be good communicator can influence the oral presentation through the use of clear outlines, the body language, asking questions and the use of visuals. If an oral presentation meets this criteria it is deemed to be good, if not, it is deemed to be poor, and good preparation and practise can be effective in enhancing the oral presentation. One instrument will be used: a questionnaire. The questionnaire will be provided to second year English students, and five EFL teachers. The potential significance of this study is to clearly discuss what makes a presentation good or bad. Moreover, it will recommend some ways in which students can reduce anxiety, and teachers can motivate their students. ----------------- ملخص يعد أداء العرض التقديمي الشفهي الجيد مقابل السيئ موضوعًا مهتمًا للطلاب للتعبير عن أنفسهم؛ ويظهر القدرات المتميزة، وقدرتهم على إيصال الأفكار بوضوح. تهدف هذه الدراسة إلى وصف العوامل التي تؤثر على أداء العرض الشفهي لطلاب اللغة الإنجليزية كلغة أجنبية في جامعة محمد شريف مساعدية. اختبار الفرضيات التي تشير إلى أن قدرة الطالب على التواصل الجيد يمكن أن تؤثر على العرض الشفهي من خلال استخدام الخطوط العريضة الواضحة ولغة الجسد وطرح الأسئلة واستخدام الصور. إذا استوفى العرض الشفهي هذه المعايير، فسيتم اعتباره جيدًا، وإذا لم يكن كذلك، فسيتم اعتباره سيئًا، ويمكن أن يكون الإعداد والممارسة الجيدان فعالين في تعزيز العرض الشفهي. سيتم استخدام أداة واحدة: الاستبيان. سيتم تقديم الاستبيان لطلاب اللغة الإنجليزية في السنة الثانية وخمسة معلمين للغة الإنجليزية كلغة أجنبية. تتمثل الأهمية المحتملة لهذه الدراسة في مناقشة ما يجعل العرض التقديمي جيدًا أو سيئًا بوضوح. علاوة على ذلك، سيوصي ببعض الطرق التي يمكن للطلاب من خلالها تقليل القلق، ويمكن للمعلمين تحفيز طلابهم. ------------------- Résumé Les bonnes et mauvaises performances en présentation orale constituent un sujet intéressant pour que les étudiants puissent s'exprimer ; Cela montre des capacités exceptionnelles et leur capacité à communiquer clairement des idées. Cette étude vise à décrire les facteurs qui influencent la performance des présentations orales des étudiants EFL de l'Université Mohamed Sherif Mesaadia. Testez les hypothèses selon lesquelles la capacité d'un élève à bien communiquer peut influencer la présentation orale grâce à l'utilisation de contours clairs, du langage corporel, du fait de poser des questions et de l'utilisation d'images. Si une présentation orale répond à ces critères, elle sera considérée comme bonne, sinon elle sera considérée comme mauvaise. Une bonne préparation et une bonne pratique peuvent être efficaces pour améliorer une présentation orale. Un outil sera utilisé : le questionnaire. Le questionnaire sera administré aux étudiants d'anglais de deuxième année et à cinq professeurs d'EFL. L’importance potentielle de cette étude est de discuter clairement de ce qui rend une présentation bonne ou mauvaise. De plus, il recommandera des moyens par lesquels les élèves peuvent réduire leur anxiété et les enseignants peuvent motiver leurs élèves.
