Abstract

Abstract: This thesis adopts a sociolinguistic approach to analyze the use of Derdja (Algerian Arabic dialect) in Rabah Sebaa’s novel Fahla. The main objective is to explore how code-switching and the use of the dialect contribute to shaping a specific linguistic imaginary that reflects Algerian cultural and identity representations. The research combines two methods: a detailed textual analysis of the novel to identify linguistic strategies, and a field study based on semi-structured interviews with readers to gather their perceptions. The findings show that Derdja, far from being seen as merely informal speech, enhances narrative closeness and grants literary legitimacy to vernacular language. It also helps shape a linguistic imaginary in which the language of everyday life becomes a bearer of memory, emotion, and identity -------------------- الملخص: يندرج هذا البحث في إطار مقاربة سوسيولغوية تهدف إلى تحليل استعمال الدارجة الجزائرية في رواية فهلة للكاتب رابح سبع. يتمثل الهدف الرئيسي في دراسة كيفية توظيف التناوب اللغوي واستخدام اللغة المحكية في بناء مخيال لغوي يعكس التمثلات الثقافية والهوياتية الجزائرية. تعتمد الدراسة على منهج مزدوج يجمع بين تحليل نصي معمّق للرواية للكشف عن الاستراتيجيات اللغوية المعتمدة، وتحقيق ميداني قائم على مقابلات شبه موجهة مع قرّاء لجمع تصوراتهم. أظهرت النتائج أن الدارجة، بعيداً عن كونها مجرد لغة غير رسمية، تعزز القرب السردي وتمنح شرعية أدبية للغة المحكية، كما تسهم في تشكيل مخيال لغوي تُصبح فيه لغة الحياة اليومية حاملة. للذاكرة والعاطفة والهوية ------------------- Résumé : Ce mémoire s’inscrit dans une démarche sociolinguistique visant à analyser l’usage de la derdja (arabe dialectal algérien) dans le roman Fahla de Rabah Sebaa. L’objectif principal est d’étudier comment l’alternance codique et l’emploi du dialecte participent à la construction d’un imaginaire linguistique spécifique, révélateur des représentations identitaires et culturelles algériennes. La recherche repose sur une double approche : une analyse textuelle approfondie du roman permettant d’identifier les stratégies linguistiques de l’auteur, ainsi qu’un travail de terrain mené à travers des entretiens semi-directifs auprès de lecteurs, afin de recueillir leurs perceptions. Les résultats montrent que la derdja, loin d’être perçue comme un simple registre familier, renforce la proximité narrative et donne une légitimité littéraire à la langue vernaculaire. Elle contribue également à façonner un imaginaire linguistique dans lequel la langue du quotidien devient un vecteur de mémoire, d’émotion et d’identité
