The Effect of Post Listening Activities on EFL Students’ Fluency and Accuracy Case of First year EFL Students at Mohamed-Cherif Messaadia University, Souk- Ahras

Abstract

Abstract This study aims to explore the impact and the effectiveness of using post listening activities on EFL students’ fluency and accuracy in the department of English language at Mohamed Cherif Messadia University. To address this objective, and to test the hypothesis; a mixed method, qualitative and quantitative; data are collected through a classroom observation and a pre and post -test design. The participants are fourteen first year EFL students who study oral expression. The obtained results show that using post listening tasks is beneficial and enhance students’ language in terms of pronunciation, vocabulary, grammar, and comprehension abilities. Moreover, these tasks not only improve their language abilities but also make learning more enjoyable and motivating for them. The findings confirmed the positive effect of post listening activities and its benefits on students’ oral fluency and accuracy. Accordingly, the research hypothesis was confirmed: the use of post-listening tasks improves learners' language skills positively, motivates them, and provides learners with the opportunity to communicate fluently. ------------------- ملخص تهدف هذه الدراسة إلى استكشاف تأثير وفعالية استخدام الأنشطة اللاحقة للاستماع على الطلاقة والدقة لدى طلاب اللغة الإنجليزية كلغة أجنبية في قسم اللغة الإنجليزية بجامعة محمد شريف مساعدية. لتحقيق هذا الهدف واختبار الفرضية، تم استخدام طريقة مختلطة، نوعية وكمية؛ حيث تم جمع البيانات من خلال ملاحظة في الفصل وتصميم اختبار قبل وبعد. المشاركون هم أربعة عشر طالبًا من السنة الأولى في اللغة الإنجليزية كلغة أجنبية يدرسون التعبير الشفوي. أظهرت النتائج التي تم الحصول عليها أن استخدام المهام اللاحقة للاستماع مفيد ويحسن لغة الطلاب من حيث النطق، والمفردات، والقواعد، وقدرات الفهم. بالإضافة إلى ذلك، فإن هذه المهام لا تحسن فقط قدراتهم اللغوية بل تجعل التعلم أكثر متعة وتحفيزًا لهم. أكدت النتائج الأثر الإيجابي للأنشطة اللاحقة للاستماع وفوائدها على الطلاقة والدقة الشفوية للطلاب. وبناءً على ذلك، تم تأكيد فرضية البحث: استخدام المهام اللاحقة للاستماع يحسن مهارات اللغة لدى المتعلمين بشكل إيجابي، يحفزهم، ويوفر لهم الفرصة للتواصل بطلاقة -------------------- Résumé Cette étude vise à explorer l'impact et l'efficacité de l'utilisation des activités post-écoute sur la fluidité et la précision des étudiants en anglais langue étrangère dans le département de langue anglaise à l'Université Mohamed Cherif Messaadia. Pour atteindre cet objectif et tester l'hypothèse, une méthode mixte, qualitative et quantitative, est utilisée; les données sont collectées par le biais d'une observation en classe et d'un dispositif de pré-test et post-test. Les participants sont quatorze étudiants de première année en anglais langue étrangère qui étudient l'expression orale. Les résultats obtenus montrent que l'utilisation des tâches post-écoute est bénéfique et améliore la langue des étudiants en termes de prononciation, vocabulaire, grammaire et capacités de compréhension. De plus, ces tâches non seulement améliorent leurs compétences linguistiques mais rendent également l'apprentissage plus agréable et motivant pour eux. Les résultats ont confirmé l'effet positif des activités post-écoute et leurs avantages sur la fluidité et la précision orale des étudiants. En conséquence, l'hypothèse de recherche a été confirmée : l'utilisation des tâches post-écoute améliore positivement les compétences linguistiques des apprenants, les motive et leur offre l'opportunité de communiquer avec fluidité.
