Investing The Role Of Digital Literacy In EFL The Case Study of EFL Students at Souk Ahras-University

Abstract

Abstract In the contemporary era of globalization and rapid technological advancement Digital Literacy has emerged asa fundamental competency in the field of language education As traaditional pedagogical methods evolveto meet 21 st-century demands .digital Tools have become indispens able for both teachers and learners in English as a Foreign Language (EFL) contexts this study aims to investigate the role of digital literacy in Enhacing EFL instruction and its impact on students linguistic performance,it Specifically seeks to examine how the integration ,critical evaluation of online Resources, and the use of educational platforms influences the teaching and learning process A mixed–methods research approach is adopted involving (30 ) EFL students the Study utizes a structured questionnaire to gather quantitative data from Students and semi-structured interviews with teachers to obtain qualitative insights, The findings indicate that higher levels of digital leteracy significantly contribute to more effective language acquisition, as students demonstrate increased autonomy and better engagement with authentic materails furthermore Participants express that while technology provides vast opportunities for practice, the successful integration of these tools depends heavily on the digital proficiency of the instructor ,based on these findings , the research hypotheses are confirmed, illustrating digital competencies is essential for bridging the gap between classroom learning and real-world English usage ------------------------------- ملخص تناولت هذه الدراسة دمج الثقافة الرقمية لدى طلبة اللغة الإنجليزية كلغة أجنبية (EFL) وتأثيرها على استقلاليتهم وكفاءاتهم اللغوية. واعتمدت الدراسة على منهج بحث مختلط يجمع بين استبيان موجه للطلبة ومقابلات مع الأساتذة . أظهرت النتائج أن 90٪ من الطلبة يمتلكون مهارات رقمية جيدة، وأن 77.42٪ منهم يستخدمون اللغة الإنجليزية بانتظام خارج القسم من خلال وسائل التواصل الاجتماعي ومنصة يوتيوب. كما بينت النتائج أن الأدوات الرقمية تساهم بشكل أساسي في تطوير مهارات التواصل الشفهي، حيث تحسنت مهارة التعبير الشفهي بنسبة 38٪ ومهارة الاستماع بنسبة 32٪، بالإضافة إلى تعزيز دافعية التعلم لدى الطلبة بنسبة 80٪ . ومع ذلك، لا تزال فعالية هذا التحول الرقمي تواجه بعض العوائق المتعلقة بالبنية التحتية والجوانب اللوجستية داخل الجامعة (43.33٪). وتوصي الدراسة بضرورة تكييف البرامج التعليمية وتحسين البنية التحتية التقنية من أجل دعم هذا التحول التربوي . ------------------------------ Résumé

Cette étude a examiné l'intégration de la littératie numérique chez les étudiants de l'anglais langue étrangère (EFL) et son impact sur leur autonomie et leurs compétences linguistiques. En utilisant une approche de recherche mixte combinant un questionnaire destiné aux étudiants et des entretiens avec les enseignants, les résultats indiquent que 90% des étudiants possèdent de solides compétences numériques, et 77,42% utilisent activement l'anglais en dehors de la classe via les médias sociaux et YouTube. Les résultats révèlent que les outils numériques améliorent principalement les compétences de communication orale (l'expression orale 38% et l'écoute 32%) et augmentent la motivation à l'apprentissage (80%). Cependant, l'efficacité de cette transition numérique reste entravée par des barrières infrastructurelles et logistiques au sein de l'université (43,33%). L'étude recommande d'ajuster les programmes et d'améliorer les infrastructures techniques pour soutenir cette transformation éducative.
