Exploring Primary School Teachers’ Views on the Effectiveness of Flashcards for Vocabulary Learning in English as a Foreign Language in (EFL) Settings The case of primary schools EFL teachers at Souk Ahras district

Abstract

Abstract The present study aims to explore primary school teachers towards the use of flashcards in improving learner’s vocabulary learning in EFL settings. To address these objectives, an exploratory research is used in which an online questionnaire was administrated to 30 EFL teachers from different primary schools in Souk Ahras district. The obtained results show that primary school teachers have positive views towards the use of flashcards as a technique to improve pupils’ vocabulary learning. Flashcards has proved to be one of the effective techniques that can help pupils acquire vocabulary and memorize new words. The stated research hypotheses are strongly supported. And at the end, a number of recommendations and suggestions for future research are proposed. ---------------- ملخص تهدف الدراسة الحالية الى استكشاف اراء معلمي المدارس الابتدائية تجاه استخدام البطاقات التعليمية في تحسين تعلم المفردات لدى الطلاب في اعداد اللغة الانجليزية كلغة اجنبية و لتحقيق هذه الاهداف تم استخدام بحث استكشافي تم فيه ادارة استبيان ل 30 معلما للغة الانجليزية كلغة اجنبية في مدارس ابتدائية مختلفة في سوق اهراس تظهر النتائج ان المعلمين لديهم اراء ايجابية تجاه استخدام البطاقات التعليمية في تعلم المفردات. لقد ثبتت البطاقات التعليمية انها واحدة من التقنيات الفعالة التي يمكن ان تساعد الطلاب على اكتساب المفردات و حفظ الكلمات الجديدة. تم تأكيد فرضيات بحثنا و في النهاية تم اقتراح عدد من التوصيات و الاقتراحات للبحوث المستقبلية ------------------ Résumé L’étude présente vise à explorer l’attitude des enseignants du primaire à l’égard de l’utilisation des flashcards pour améliorer l’apprentissage du vocabulaire chez les apprents en context d’anglais langue étrangère. Pour atteindre ces objectifs, une recherche exploratoire a été utilisée, dans laquelle un questionnaire a été administré à 30 enseignants d’anglais étrangère dans différentes écoles primaires à Souk Ahras. Les résultats montrent que les enseignants ont une opinion positive sur l’utilisation des flashcards dans l’apprentissage du vocabulaire. Les flashcards se sont avérées être l’une des techniques efficaces qui peuvent aider les élève à acquérir du vocabulaire et à mémoriser de nouveaux mots. Nos hypothèses de recherche sont confirmées, et à la fin, un certain nombre de recommandations et de suggestions pour des recherches futures sont proposées.
